How to sharpen a sewing needle yourself: reliable methods

If your needle has become dull or has scratches on it, this is a sign that it needs to be sharpened.
Otherwise, it will become more and more difficult to pierce the fabric, and eventually the damaged needle will catch on the fabric, which will only ruin the product.
To make the needle fit for use again, use the tools in this article.
Soap
Damage to the needle can be repaired using a regular bar of soap. To do this, take a bar of soap and stick the needle into it, then pull it out.
To remove soap flakes, pass the needle through a scrap of unwanted fabric. Done – no more scratches, and the tool is as smooth as possible.
Nail file
With the help of a nail file you can not only shape the nail plate, but also sharpen the needle.
Hold the nail file with the abrasive side facing up. With your other hand, take the needle and hold it between your fingers. Place the tip of the needle on the nail file and move it up and down.
Foil and butter
To sharpen a sewing needle, you can even use items that are found in every kitchen – sunflower oil and aluminum foil.
Dip the needle into the vegetable oil, then take a small piece of foil and move it back and forth while rotating the needle. Be sure to remove any remaining oil from the sharpened needle to prevent greasy stains on the fabric.
