Is it true that foil behind a radiator allows you to heat a room faster: it’s not that simple

Among the popular household life hacks, there is one that says that if you place foil or another reflective material behind the heating radiator, the room will warm up faster.

Considering that the radiator heats the space around itself evenly, the screen should increase heat transfer.

This design really does allow you to save money. But there is one catch.

Advantages

You can use kitchen foil, which you will have to stick onto thick cardboard or plywood, or purchase foil-coated thermal insulation material.

It is important that the screen is no closer than 2-3 cm from the battery, then the heat will go into the room, and not into the wall facing the street.

Flaws

At the same time, due to the screen installed behind the battery, the outer wall will heat up worse.

Instead, it will begin to absorb heat from the heated air in the room, which will negate all the results.

To do or not to do

According to experts, installing such a screen makes sense in two cases.

1. If the wall is thin and the radiator produces maximum temperature.

2. It is necessary to take into account the material from which the battery is made.

If it is a cast iron battery, then the life hack will work, but not enough to talk about significant savings.

And with modern radiator models this trick is completely useless.
