How to distinguish genuine leather from artificial leather: don't be fooled

There are several proven ways to determine whether the leather is genuine or an artificial material.

One of them is to smell the product. Faux leather often has a sharp chemical smell that gives away its origin. Natural leather, in turn, has its own special aroma, although not always pleasant.

But, frankly speaking, some modern manufacturers add special fragrances to the raw materials, which give the leatherette a more natural smell.

The second option is to hold a sample of the material in your hand for a few minutes. If you feel that it has warmed up and retains heat for some time, then it is genuine leather. Artificial analogues do not heat up.

Even with a simple touch of the leather, you can notice that it is much softer and more elastic than substitutes, has a more uniform texture. In addition, genuine leather has a special fullness.

If you press on the material, you feel a pleasant softness and the imprint quickly disappears.

Natural leather is very difficult to stretch, and after such manipulations it quickly returns to its original state.

Finally, you can try to bend a natural product. If its color does not change at the bend, the leather is natural. However, if you bend a leatherette, you can see several different shades on it.
