Why you shouldn't heat a sauna in severe frost: a question of your safety

Quite a few people come to their dachas even in winter – and all in order to enjoy the time spent in the warm, even red-hot walls of a bathhouse located on their own property.

Let's not argue: a steam room is not only a great place to relax, but also an opportunity to improve your health, but do not forget that in winter you should heat the bathhouse, taking into account the weather conditions.

Let's return to the question of whether it is possible to heat a bathhouse when there is severe frost outside.

You are unlikely to find a direct ban in any of the sources, but you will certainly find several recommendations - and our advice is to follow them, because they directly relate to both your comfort and safety.

These wishes are connected with two “nuances”: firstly, in severe frosts, heat loss through the walls and roof of the bathhouse increases, which makes it difficult to achieve and maintain the desired temperature in the steam room, and secondly, the processes of heating and burning fuel in the stove slow down, which requires special care and control from the stoker.

So what are the recommendations?

1. In severe frost, before heating the bathhouse, it is worth first warming up the stove for initial heating and minimizing heat loss.

2. It is necessary to monitor the condition of the stove and chimneys, prevent the formation of soot and promptly clean off deposits.

3. To make a fire, use only recommended materials and follow safety rules when using them.

4. If it is very cold outside, look for dry and high-quality firewood or coal for the sauna – they are needed for long and even burning.
