How to behave in severe frost: what to do in case of general hypothermia

In Belarus, severe frosts suddenly set in and many were not prepared for them, as the thaw quickly gave way to frosts.

It is important to be prepared for such cold snaps, as otherwise serious health problems may arise.

Medical assistance is often not needed to cope with hypothermia.

But if you suspect that there is a health threat, it is better to be on the safe side and seek advice.

What to do in case of hypothermia?

  1. Stop exposure to the cold - find a warm room or tent.
  2. Change into dry and warm clothes.
  3. Warm up slowly using a blanket or sleeping bag.
  4. Examine the skin for frostbite - if signs are found, first aid should be provided.
  5. Place warm heating pads on your neck, chest and groin – they shouldn’t be hot!
  6. Give the victim a warm, sweet drink.
