It recently became known that a new variant of coronavirus – XEC – has reached the Russian Federation.
In a country neighboring Belarus, two cases of infection with this strain have been identified – in the Rostov region and Ufa.
This was reported by MIA "Russia Today" with reference to the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor).
The agency's press service reported that its specialists are constantly conducting "molecular genetic monitoring of the nucleotide sequences of SARS-CoV-2" that are occurring in Russia.
During the course of this work, two cases of infection with a new variant of coronavirus (XEC) were recently recorded.
Cases of infection with this strain of COVID have been registered in the city of Ufa (the capital of Bashkortostan) and the Rostov region.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor announced that the agency was monitoring the situation with this very XEC.
It was noted then that it spreads quickly, but manifests itself in almost exactly the same way as recent sub-variants of "omicron".
XEC is known to be a variant of COVID-19 formed by a combination of two earlier variations – FLiRT and “omicron”.
As for the symptoms, they resemble those typical of previous strains: cough, runny nose, headache, sore throat, fever.
In addition, possible loss of smell and appetite, aching bones, fatigue, and pain throughout the body are noted.
In order to ensure protection against the virus attack during the period of increased incidence, Rospotrebnadzor recommends:
– use personal protective equipment;
– wash your hands regularly with soap;
– try to avoid contact with sick people;
– regularly ventilate the premises.
By the way. Recently, the Ministry of Health of Belarus reported that XEC has not been detected in the republic at the moment.
