FT: Google orders small nuclear reactors to power its energy-hungry data centres
A deal has been announced between the American corporation Google and the startup Kairos Power.
The agreement envisages that Google will use small nuclear reactors to provide low-carbon electricity to its energy-intensive data centers.
A publication with the relevant information appeared in the foreign edition of the Financial Times, reports Gazeta.Ru .
What is known about the agreement
According to the Financial Times, Google has placed an order for small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) with a total capacity of 500 MW.
And this, as foreign journalists have emphasized, will make it possible to commission the first commercial reactor in just a few years.
The company itself commented on the deal as follows: “A milestone in our 15-year journey to clean energy.”
One of the corporation's representatives said that small nuclear reactors offer a relatively simple and safe design.
It is also emphasized that there should be no particular difficulties in choosing a location for the SMR. Most likely, there will be no problems related to the speed of construction.
