On Wednesday evening, November 27, two giants of world football battled it out in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage.
In Liverpool, the local team of the same name hosted guests from the capital of Spain – Real Madrid.
The hosts were not very hospitable – they torpedoed the opponent’s goal twice and thus won with a score of 2:0.
It should be noted that for the “Reds” this was the fifth consecutive victory in the tournament, which allowed them to take sole control of the tournament table with 15 points scored.
Another interesting fact: Liverpool beat Real Madrid in the Champions League for the first time since March 2009.
As for the goals scored in the match in question, in which, by the way, the English looked much better than the Spanish, the goals only happened in the second half.
Alexis McAllister scored first in the 52nd minute, and Cody Gakpo doubled the hosts' lead in the 77th.
The spectators also saw two missed penalties: Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe (61) and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (70).
Among other matches on Wednesday, we note the rout that Serbian Red Star inflicted on German Stuttgart – 5:1.
The matches between Aston Villa and Juventus (0:0) and Celtic and Club Brugge (1:1) ended in draws.
Other matches ended as follows:
- "Sturm" - "Girona" - 1:0;
– “Bologna” – “Lille” – 1:2;
– Dynamo (Zagreb) – Borussia (Dortmund) – 0:3;
