Sunday night's football in Europe culminated in one of the most exciting confrontations among all the top championships.
The Madrid derby took place in La Liga, with Real Madrid and Atletico fighting (and that's right, fighting, it was a serious fight).
The match took place at the stadium of the "mattress makers". And again in the confrontation with the wards of Diego Simeone, Carlo Ancelotti's guys were unable to win.
The fourth match in a row in this duel. The game on September 29 ended in a very fighting draw – 1:1.
The meeting was marked by a huge scandal: in the second half, the most radical Atletico fans began throwing lighters at the visiting team's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The referee decided to stop the match for the safety of the players. The home team players and their coach approached the fans.
Simeone made a gesture to the fans that meant something like, "You have to have a head, you shouldn't be a hooligan."
Finally, around the 70th minute, the referee sent the teams off the pitch. At that point, Real was winning 1-0 (Eder Militao scored in the 64th minute).
The game resumed 15 minutes later, before a very expansive and emotional Simeone himself again addressed the fans, calling on them to behave within the bounds of decency.
There was also a fierce battle on the field. Constant clashes bordering on fistfights significantly increased the intensity of the meeting.
And now the regular time is over. The "creamy" were still ahead - 1:0.
But they didn't hold out. In the extra minutes (90+5) Angel Correa scored accurately – 1:1.
With that, the teams parted ways. However, there was one more event. In the 8th minute of added time, Atletico midfielder Marcos Llorente received a red card and was sent off the field.
And then at the end Le Normand and Tchouameni collided – both were flying towards the ball, the latter hit the former hard in the head with his head.
Not on purpose, of course, but the help of doctors was needed, who were urgently called to the field.
Let's add that Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe missed this game due to an injury he sustained in the last round.
In the same round – the 8th – of the Spanish championship, Barcelona suffered its first defeat, losing away to Osasuna with a score of 2:4.
The encounters between Celta and Girona and Atletico from Bilbao and Sevilla ended in draws. Both matches ended 1:1.
