Biathletes from Russia and Belarus are not allowed to participate in the new international season.
TASS reports this with reference to the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
The IBU congress concluded its work in Belgrade today. As TASS was informed by the organization, the issue of restoring the federations of the Russian Federation and Belarus and allowing their biathletes to compete was not on the agenda of the meeting.
Thus, the decision of the IBU Congress from 2022 remains in force. This means, the IBU explained, that biathletes from Russia and Belarus will not be able to take part in the new international season even in neutral status.
The IBU rules do not contain any provision for the participation of athletes in a neutral status, the organization stated.
Russian and Belarusian biathletes have been banned from participating in IBU competitions in March 2022.
Subsequently, the membership of the federations of Russia and Belarus in the organization was suspended.
Last year, the International Olympic Committee recommended allowing Russians and Belarusians to participate as neutrals. However, no international federation for winter Olympic sports has yet made such a decision.
