Football. Europa League. Roma and Athletic fought
On Thursday evening, September 26, a number of interesting football matches took place as part of the first round of the updated Europa League.
Perhaps the central match in this pool of games is the confrontation between the Italian Roma and the Basque Athletic Bilbao.
The teams are roughly equal in strength. And this was demonstrated by the meeting, which ended in a draw – 1:1.
The scoring in the match was opened by Ukrainian Artem Dovbyk, who played in the Spanish championship last season (he became the top scorer in La Liga as part of Girona).
His precise strike in the 32nd minute gave the "wolves" from Rome the lead. However, in the 85th minute, Aitor Paredes equalized the score.
As it turned out, the visiting team's footballer set the final score on the scoreboard - 1:1.
Among yesterday's other Europa League matches, we note the victories of the Turkish Fenerbahce
over the Belgian Union (2:1).
But another equally famous Istanbul club, Besiktas, had an extremely unsuccessful trip to Amsterdam, where they suffered a crushing defeat from the local Ajax (0:4).
A goal-scoring extravaganza took place in the match between the German Eintracht and the Czech Viktoria – 3:3.
Romanian FC Steaua defeated Latvian RFS (4:1), French Lyon defeated Greek Olympiacos (2:0).
