Three Maternity Benefit Points You Might Have Missed

18.11.2024 21:02

Since July 1, the procedure for assigning and paying maternity benefits has changed in Belarus.

And from January 1 of next year, the legislation on state benefits for families raising children will change.

The press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection reminded about this on Telegram.

What expectant mothers need to know about maternity benefits

Firstly, if a woman expecting a child has several jobs, she has the right to take sick leave at her main place of work and continue working part-time; this will not be a violation.

Secondly, from January 1 of next year, the minimum amount of maternity benefits and childcare benefits for children under 14 years of age will be calculated based on the minimum wage.

Thirdly, if a pregnant woman on maternity leave to care for a child under three years of age does not interrupt her maternity leave or less than six months have passed since its completion, the benefit may be calculated based on the fact, as per the law, or in the amount of the previous maternity benefit.

A more favorable indicator is applied. That is, a mother who does not return to work will receive both a child care allowance of 100% and a full maternity allowance.

For reference

Maternity benefit is one of the types of social insurance benefits expressed in a monetary amount paid to a woman in total for the entire period of maternity leave.
