On Monday, December 16, a fierce wind hit Belarus. As a result of the storm, many populated areas of the country were left without electricity.
In addition, Christmas trees were toppled in some cities.
But that's not all. Trees fell on the roadways, and roofs were torn off several buildings.
As the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus reported on its official Telegram channel, problems with electricity mainly occurred in the Brest and Grodno regions.
The bad weather mostly affected the Pinsk, Zhabinka, Grodno and Volkovysk districts, the report says.
Strong winds knocked down trees not only onto roads, but also onto overhead power lines.
As of ten o'clock in the evening, power supply had been fully restored in the settlements affected by the natural disaster.
127 emergency response teams worked in an enhanced mode to restore the power supply.
In addition, specialists used 150 units of special equipment, the department noted.
Today, December 17, according to weather forecasters, equally strong winds are expected.
For this reason, incidents similar to those that happened on Monday cannot be ruled out.
Power engineers have warned Belarusians about the potential deadly danger that could arise from the wind.
We are talking about damaged electrical networks and, in particular, about torn wires, which are strictly forbidden to approach for the sake of citizens’ own safety.
Belarusians are asked: if you discover “these facts,” try to report them as quickly as possible to the emergency services short number – 115 and 144.
