Belarusian tourists planning to vacation in warm, sunny Greece should be prepared for the fact that the pleasure will cost them more than usual.
This primarily concerns those staying in local hotels, as well as cruise ship passengers.
The Minister of Tourism of Greece Olga Kefalogianni announced new tariffs for this category of foreigners, 1prof.by reports with reference to the Money-tourism portal.
It is noted that representatives of the Greek tourism industry have spoken out against the innovations.
Against the fact that starting next year, passengers on sea liners arriving on the islands of Santorini and Mykonos will have to pay for it.
As well as against the fact that in the period from April to October, that is, during the entire holiday season, the fee for maintaining the sustainability of hotels to climate change will increase:
– for one- and two-star hotels – from 50 cents to 2 euros per night;
– for three-star hotels – from 3 to 5 euros;
– for 4-star hotels – from 7 to 10 euros;
– for five-star hotels and villas with an area of over 80 sq.m. – from 10 to 15 euros.
At the same time, the Greek authorities have extended the period of lower prices. If previously it lasted from November to February, it will now last until March.
During this period, the above-mentioned hotel fees will be:
– 50 cents – one and two stars;
– 1 euro 50 cents – three stars;
– 3 euros – four stars;
– 4 euros – five stars.
If we are talking about short-term rental (regardless of the season), the fee increases from 50 cents to 2 euros from 1.5 to 8 euros, respectively.
The Greek authorities intend to use the revenues from this tax to prevent and eliminate the consequences of natural disasters and improve tourism infrastructure.
Among other things, Kefalogianni announced a ban on issuing new short-term rental permits for periods of less than one year in three central areas of Athens.
Moreover, the ban may be extended to other areas of the capital where there is a high demand for housing.
However, property owners who exchange short-term rentals for long-term rentals are exempt from rental income tax for 3 years.
As for cruise ship passengers, they will have to pay 20 euros between June 1 and September 20 next year.
But this rule only applies to those who land on the islands of Santorini and Mykonos. On other islands the fee will be 5 euros.
In April-May and October, the tariff for the two islands mentioned above will be reduced to 12 euros, for the rest – to 4 euros.
From November to March, such fees will be 4 and 1 euro, respectively.
Let us add that all of the above changes were not to the liking of Greek hoteliers and ship owners.
The Heraklion Hoteliers Association on the island of Crete says the authorities have made an unfounded decision that will place an "undue burden" on the hotel industry.
