From December 20 to 25, the State Traffic Inspectorate will hold a special event in the Minsk region.
It is aimed at preventing road accidents in winter and promoting the use of winter tires.
This preventive measure is called “Winter tires”.
The press service of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate reported this on its official Telegram channel.
During the campaign, traffic police officers will monitor drivers to ensure that they comply with the law regarding winter tires.
Cars with faulty wheels and tires will not be allowed to participate in road traffic.
Law enforcement officials reminded: from December 1 to March 1, cars must be equipped with winter tires.
When purchasing such tires, it is recommended to pay attention to the tire markings.
Tyres must be marked with a three-peaked mountain symbol with a snowflake inside, or with the M+S, M&S, MS, MS or All seasons symbols.
In this case, the residual height of the tread pattern must be at least 4 mm, the report says.
The State Traffic Inspectorate also warned drivers: driving a car without winter tires during the above-mentioned period will result in administrative liability.
We are talking about a fine of up to one basic unit (up to 40 rubles).
By the way, from January 1 in Belarus the base rate will rise to 42 rubles, and accordingly, the fine will also increase to this amount.
If the driver repeatedly violates the relevant requirement of the law, he will be fined from 2 to 5 base units.
This means that before January 1 the fine will be from 80 to 200 rubles, after – from 84 to 210 rubles.
The State Traffic Inspectorate also pointed out the fact that in the Minsk region, from December 1 to 16, 454 drivers were held accountable for driving on tires other than winter ones.
