Belhydromet presented the climate characteristics for autumn 2024.

It entered the top 3 warmest in the entire history of observations.

What was autumn 2024 like in Belarus

As reported by pogoda.by , this year's autumn was the second in the ranking of observations from warmest to coldest since 1881.

The average air temperature was +9.5 degrees, exceeding the climatic norm by two and a half degrees.

The positive anomaly was observed throughout the country and was mostly in the range of 2 to 3 degrees.

In terms of regions, the highest values of positive anomalies were recorded in the Mogilev region – 2.8 degrees, the lowest – in the Brest region (2 degrees).

September 2024 was the warmest in the entire history of observations. The steady transition of the average daily temperature through the +15 degree mark towards a decrease occurred 2-3 decades later than usual (from September 19 to 29).

The average temperature in September was +17.5 degrees, 4.8 degrees above normal, in October – +8.3 degrees (one and a half degrees above normal), in November – +2.6 degrees (one degree above normal).

The maximum temperature in September – +32 degrees – was recorded on September 1 at Oktyabr station, the minimum – +0.8 degrees – on September 30 at Lyntupy station.

In most areas, maximum temperatures reached +27 degrees, in the south and southeast – +28-30 degrees and more.

Long heat waves have been recorded in the northern, north-eastern and central parts of the country – from 9 to 27 days.

There were several waves lasting from 6 to 14 days in the southeastern, western and southwestern parts of the country: from late August to September 9 and from September 14 to 27.

October ranked ninth in the series of observations ranked from warmest to coldest.

The period of active vegetation (a stable transition of the average daily temperature through the +10 degree mark) ended in the northeast on October 5 (8-11 days later), in the southern half of the country - on October 12-13 (1-2 weeks later than usual), in the north and northwest - at the end of September (close to normal).

The maximum temperature in October – +23.6 degrees – was recorded at the Pinsk station on October 10, the minimum – minus 5 degrees – on October 20.

The growing season (a stable transition of the average daily temperature through the +5 degree mark) occurred at the beginning of November (4-11 days later than usual).

The maximum temperature in November – +15.9 degrees – was recorded at the Pruzhany station on November 1, the minimum – minus 8.8 degrees – on November 23 at the Oshmyany station.

The average precipitation in the country for the autumn was 111 millimetres (72% of the norm). Autumn 2024 was among the 20 driest since 1945, taking 16th place.

Strong winds with speeds of up to 15 meters per second and more were observed. The maximum wind speed (24 meters per second) was recorded on November 2 at the stations of Novogrudok and Slavgorod and on November 4 at the stations of Klichev and Gorki.
