Fraudsters are working on a new fraud scheme against residents of the Brest region.

The cases of extortion of money mainly affected iPhone owners. Victims are asked to pay money to unlock their mobile communication device.

BELTA reports on yet another fraudulent scheme, citing the Brest Regional Executive Committee Department of Internal Affairs.

Victims fall for the trick most often on thematic websites.

First, the attacker gets to know the victim, and then the communication smoothly moves to a messenger.

Under a far-fetched pretext, a new acquaintance asks a potential victim to log into someone else's Icloud from a personal device.

If the person agrees, he receives login details from the fraudster.

Once the victim logs into the account, the scammer changes the iPhone password and activates the "lost" feature.

After this, the obliging owner of the mobile communication device cannot log out of someone else’s account, nor can he deactivate the lost mode.

To unlock the device, scammers ask the iPhone owner to transfer money to a specified account.

Addressing the population, law enforcement officers ask not to register in other people's accounts on their devices and not to enter login information on websites of dubious origin.
