A Belarusian infectious disease specialist has given a forecast regarding whether the Marburg virus will become a new pandemic.
The chief freelance infectious disease specialist of the health committee of the capital's mayor's office, deputy chief physician of the Minsk City Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital Svyatoslav Velgin voiced his vision of the situation.
On air on the STV channel, he drew attention to the fact that the disease caused by the aforementioned virus falls into the category of “especially dangerous infection.”
According to the specialist, there are not many infections that are so serious that they pose a danger on a planetary scale.
The danger of Marburg fever, the infectious disease specialist added, is that it is transmitted not only through carriers, but also from person to person.
I noticed that many of those infected in Africa are medical workers.
In connection with the current situation, Velgin acknowledged the existence of certain risks.
However, he clarified, they have now been effectively leveled out.
Because two incubation periods (42 days) will soon pass. No new cases will be registered in Europe, the specialist said.
