On November 1, a ban on catching common catfish and Chud whitefish came into effect in Belarus.
The Belarusian Society of Hunters and Fishermen (BSHF) reported this.
As the BOOR reported , the catfish goes into hibernation earlier than other fish and becomes practically motionless.
This makes the catfish an easy target in wintering pits. The ban on catching it is in effect from November 1 to March 31.
The ban on whitefish fishing is in effect from November 1 to December 15. During this period, whitefish and other salmon fish begin spawning.
The BOOR noted that there are other species of fish that are not afraid of winter. For example, burbot, which hibernates in the summer.
The Belarusian Fisheries Society also reminded that from October 1 to April 15, fishing for all types of fish in wintering pits is prohibited in Belarus.
