What is the essence of the Fake boss scam?
To implement this scheme, fraudsters study work chats in instant messengers, collect information about the organization and its management, and create fake accounts of managers.
Subsequently, using such an account, the scammers enter into correspondence with subordinates.
Most often, they are informed about an upcoming conversation with employees of regulatory, law enforcement and other government agencies. At the same time, they are asked to maintain confidentiality.
Sometimes scammers send voice messages with the manager’s voice, created using AI, call on behalf of the manager, send photos of IDs, copies of official documents.
During the conversation, the scammers persuade citizens to provide account access details, transfer money, or hand it over to a courier.
This fraudulent scheme is often used among healthcare workers, the Ministry of Health warned.
They also noted that scammers are constantly improving their schemes.
