The Council of Ministers of Poland has adopted a bill on the country's accession to the Schengen Entry-Exit System (EES).
This is a system for recording data on the crossing of external borders of the Schengen area by citizens of third countries.
For Belarusians crossing the border with Poland, this means some changes in the procedure.
According to the Polish publication Bankier, the EES system has a built-in calculator for calculating the period of permitted stay in the Schengen area.
The implementation of this system will make it possible to do away with stamping passports.
Belarusians and citizens of other countries outside the European Union will have to undergo a facial scan, provide fingerprints and answer questions about their stay upon entering the Schengen area.
The launch of the EES system was originally scheduled for November 10 this year, but yesterday Reuters reported, citing EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson, that the launch had been postponed.
November 10 is no longer on the table, the European Commissioner said.
According to her, there is no new schedule yet, but the possibility of a phased implementation of the system is being considered.
