According to folk signs, on St. Sergius' Day you can find out when winter will come.
If the first snow falls on this day, winter will set in on Michaelmas (November 21).
If the weather is good on Sergei Kapustnik, the whole month will be fine.
If the leaves have not fallen from the birch trees by St. Sergey's Day, the snow will fall late.
A north wind on St. Sergei's Day foretells a cold winter, a south wind foretells a warm winter, and a west wind foretells a snowy winter.
