Elective courses will be introduced in Belarusian educational institutions, the purpose of which will be to improve the functional literacy of schoolchildren.
Thus, it is known about the approval of the curriculum of the optional classes “Ladder to Success”.
They will be held in the second, third and fourth grades.
As for grades 5-9, optional classes “Stairway to Success. Forming students’ functional literacy” will be held.
The planned innovations are evidenced by a resolution of the Belarusian Ministry of Education.

It is emphasized that the programs of optional classes were developed in connection with the emerging need to carry out work in order to develop functional literacy in schoolchildren.
The latter will give the student the opportunity to solve many problems in various areas of life.
Functional literacy means having creative thinking, communication skills, and a high level of emotional and social intelligence.
The optional classes, which will be held in grades 2-4, include the following topics: “How to learn to study?”, “The ABCs of professions”.
Older students will be taught how to work in a team, navigate the abundance of data from the media, and other skills.
