Residents of planet Earth, including Belarusians, today, September 17, 2024, are experiencing the impact of a powerful magnetic storm that has hit the planet.

Experts say that its level of strength is close to the maximum. And it began after the passage of a plasma cloud, recently ejected by the Sun.

This was reported by MIA "Russia Today" with reference to representatives of the solar astronomy laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

After ten hours in the peripheral regions of the solar plasma cloud, the planet was still caught by the core of the ejecta, the scientists reported.

According to their data, the “jump in the parameters of the surrounding cosmic gas” was recorded at about half past one in the morning Moscow time.

Just a few hours later, at about half past four in the morning, the “most powerful changes” occurred.

Please note: at this moment, ground magnetometers have registered the beginning of a magnetic storm of level 3.66 (almost 4 points out of 5 possible).

At the moment, the event is still ongoing, although it should not be long-term. However, the main masses of plasma have already passed by the planet, the laboratory stated.

It is known that strong auroras are currently observed in the Western Hemisphere, including in Canada and the northern states of the USA.

The Eastern Hemisphere, including Russia and Belarus, has passed by such phenomena today.
