Ministry of Taxes and Duties: Cryptocurrency in Belarus cannot be used to pay for work and services

In Belarus, it is not possible to use cryptocurrency to pay for work and services.

The Ministry of Taxes and Duties reminded about this.

As reported by BELTA , the department recalled that in accordance with Decree No. 8 “On the Development of the Digital Economy” dated 21.12.2017, the Banking and Civil Codes, tokens (cryptocurrency) are not a means of payment and cannot be used to pay for work/services.

The Ministry of Taxes and Duties gave an example. The Department of Operational Activities of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties for the Minsk Region conducted control measures against citizen G., who provided operator management supervisor services to the Moscow-based LLC "K" in Belarus from October 30 last year to June 11 this year.

The Belarusian was paid for her work in tokens via a cryptocurrency platform. In total, she received 5,536.05 tokens.

The woman sold them through P2P transactions on a cryptocurrency platform. The income from illegal activities amounted to 16,380.96 rubles.

An administrative protocol was drawn up against the woman under Part 3 of Article 13.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences.

The penalty under this article provides for a fine in the amount of 20 to 50 base units with or without confiscation of up to 100% of the income, funds and instruments of committing the offense.
