At the request of the National Center for Personal Data Protection (NCPPD), one of the Belarusian banks deleted 5 million photos of its clients.

These photographs were obtained by the financial institution when processing consumer loans.

The press service of the National Center for Social Protection of the Population reports this on its official Telegram channel.

The Center's experts cite the following factors as the reason for this requirement:

– this processing is not provided for by law;
– it was carried out without the necessary legal justification;
– the processing was not necessary to achieve the above-mentioned purpose;
– was excessive.

At the request of the Center, the clients’ photographs were deleted and the illegal processing of personal data was stopped, the statement said.

The specialists of the National Center for Protection of Personal Data drew the attention of operators to compliance with the general requirements for the processing of personal data in accordance with Belarusian legislation.

And citizens were urged not to forget the fact that no one has the right to demand that they provide an amount of information that does not correspond to the purposes of processing personal data.
