On Friday, September 6, during a meeting, Alexander Lukashenko was presented with the concept of the new building of the National History Museum.
The President oriented those gathered to the fact that the museum “must be normal.”
It should be such that a young person, having visited it, is convinced that Belarusians have the right to their own statehood.
The President emphasized that the people earned this right through hard work, sweat and blood, “having lived not even a century, but a millennium.”
And here it is, history – before our eyes, the head of state’s press service quotes him as saying.
He noted: The National Historical Museum is “the next stage” of the sovereign development of Belarus.
The museum is designed to show the complex and thorny thousand-year path of Belarusians to gaining statehood, Lukashenko said.
The people managed to preserve their identity, language, and culture, while possessing a unique talent and a “special quality” – peacefulness.
We have come a long way and achieved great results. This should be a source of pride, especially for our youth, the Belarusian leader said.
At the same time, he stated that the content of the exhibition should not contain any nationalistic or jingoistic overtones.
The head of state focuses on an objective view of the country's history.
My main requirement is to present historical facts as truthfully as possible,” he said.
As for the location where the museum will be located, Lukashenko considers it optimal.
The Palace of Independence, the Supreme Court, and the State Flag Square are located in that area.
The museum should become a kind of calling card of the country. To delight with both its modern architectural appearance and its interior content, the President pointed out.
He also called for special attention to be paid to the architectural solution, aimed at “reading the national characteristics of the country.”
At the same time, it is necessary to think through the issues of maintenance, operation of the building, engineering structures, etc. as much as possible, the head of state noted.
As for the design of the museum exhibition, he suggests ensuring a balance between tradition and modern technology.
The President noted that it is necessary to study the global experience of creating similar facilities and, if necessary, use it.
It is reported that, on Lukashenko’s instructions, all of the above issues were worked out by the capital’s mayor’s office together with the Ministry of Culture and historians, which was reported at the meeting.
It is assumed that the National Historical Museum will be built on the site between Pobediteley Avenue, Orlovskaya Street and the Svisloch River.
The museum building itself will be designed in such a way that its shape will repeat the outline of the map of Belarus.
According to the mayor of Minsk, Vladimir Kukharev, they want to build not only a museum on the specified site, but an entire museum and park complex.
It will be called the Park of National Unity.
