In Bobruisk, a 75-year-old woman joined the list of victims of telephone scammers by handing over 20 thousand rubles to a courier.
A pensioner was informed about a traffic accident allegedly caused by her grandson. In order to avoid criminal liability, a certain amount had to be paid.
The operatives of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Bobruisk City Executive Committee became aware of an illegal act committed against a 75-year-old citizen, the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus reports.
The woman herself turned to the police for help.
As it turned out, the pensioner believed the story about the accident, that her grandson was allegedly facing criminal liability and that she needed to pay to save her relative.
The citizen then reported that she had given the courier who arrived about 20 thousand rubles.
After receiving a message from the victim, the operatives were able to identify the suspect.
The courier himself was soon detained. He turned out to be an 18-year-old resident of Mogilev.
Later, he admitted to law enforcement that he found the job offer on the Internet. He managed to carry out only one order from his handlers.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of fraud, and investigative measures are being carried out to identify all participants in the criminal scheme.
Law enforcement officials remind that so-called couriers bear criminal liability and are obliged to compensate the victims for material damages.
