The oldest Sumatran orangutan in the world is believed to be a female named Bella, who lives in the Hagenbeck Zoo, located in Germany.

Bella celebrated her 63rd birthday and was listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

The average lifespan of orangutans in the wild is 35-40 years, and in captivity these animals live up to 50 years, so Bella's record is a special achievement.

On Bella's birthday, zoo staff gave her a present by making a cake made of fruit, cottage cheese and rice.

She shared the treat with Berani, one of her adopted children. Bella has raised four “adopted children” and six of her own children.

According to people working at the zoo, the record holder can be described as honest, reasonable, curious and intelligent. This is a loving and non-aggressive animal.

True, over the years Bella became less active than before and stopped going out into the enclosure regularly.

She usually spends her evenings quietly climbing around in circles.
