Car enthusiasts often set speed records. Andrew Frankel and Rebecca Jackson decided to find out how many countries you can travel around on a single tank of gas.
The Audi A6 TDI was chosen as the test vehicle.
It is difficult to say what exactly influenced the record setting – driving skills or technical characteristics, but it was possible to travel 1865 km on one tank.
The travelers spent 28 hours on the road.
They went from Holland to Hungary.
During this time they visited Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia.
In addition to the technical characteristics of the vehicle, the condition of the tires was taken into account.
To reduce fuel consumption, expensive tires were installed on the test car.
Moreover, the trip took place in the summer (June 9-10).
Once they started driving, they took turns driving and tried to maintain an average speed of no less than 50 miles per hour (80.45 km).
Despite the calculations, difficulties could not be avoided.
Unforeseen difficulties almost prevented the travelers from setting the record.
The road was heavily congested in places, and a closed tunnel meant they had to change route to go around the mountain.
