Where on Earth is the Cleanest Air: Scientists Name a Specific Place

The title of the place with the cleanest air on Earth belongs to the Southern Ocean. Scientists have finally been able to answer the question about the exact reasons for this “phenomenon”.

Of course, the absence of human activity should be put first.

Far fewer people in this region use industrial chemicals or burn fossil fuels.

But small particles still get into the air – from natural sources, such as salt from sea spray or wind-blown dust.

These small solid particles or liquid droplets in the air are called aerosols in scientific parlance. Only when there are few aerosols of any origin in the air can scientists say that it is clean.

However, the Southern Ocean is not going to give up the title for the cleanest air to anyone, and it is helped by clouds and rain, which, according to Australian scientists, play an important role in cleaning the atmosphere.

Research shows that days with the cleanest air were accompanied by the presence of honeycomb-shaped clouds.

And considering the fact that the Southern Ocean, in addition to everything else, is also called the cloudiest place on Earth - it is here that short-term rains most often occur - it becomes clear that the key factor in the cleanliness of the air is precipitation, especially from transparent clouds with open cells like honeycombs.
