The prototype of Monopoly was created in 1903 and its creator is Maryland actress Lizzie Meghie.
The Landlord's Game consisted of a square board - along the edges were the names of things that players could buy. The "board game" had 4 railroad cars, 2 factories and a prison, and players received $100 each time their token landed in a corner square.
