This New Zealander Has the World's Longest Name: It Wouldn't Fit on His Passport
There lives a man in New Zealand whose original name was Lawrence Gregory Watkins.
This is a common name for an English-speaking country. There is nothing special about it.
However, at some point Mr. Watkins wanted to stand out.
In the spring of 1990, he applied to change his name.
The man wanted his official name to consist of... 2,300 words.
The most interesting thing is that the New Zealand Ministry of Justice did not refuse the citizen and carried out the official registration of the new name.
The Unusual Name of a Record-Breaking New Zealander
Now a citizen of New Zealand has about 2,300 names. However, only one surname remains.
Let us give the first ten names: Laurence, Alon, Aloys, Aloysius, Alphece, Alun, Alured, Alwyn, Alysandyr, Ambie.
The New Zealander stressed that all names that are important to him and his family are mentioned.
And it is not known how 2,300 names were entered into the passport. It is unlikely that there was enough space in the document for all these words. And if there was, then perhaps additional pages were needed.
Interestingly, his friends and family continue to call the man Lawrence Watkins.
But in any case, the New Zealander got into the Guinness Book of Records as the owner of the longest name.
