Why Ordinary Trees Got Into the Guinness Book of Records: Their Height Is to Blame

Scientists have come to the conclusion that the maximum height of the tree in theory is 125-130 meters.

There are no trees in nature that would reach such a height, but there are those whose height has “stepped over” the 100-meter mark.

Thus, the “growth” from the crown to the base of the tallest tree in the world is 116.07 meters (measurements were taken in 2019).

It is an 800-year-old sequoia that grows in the American Redwood National Park and is named Hyperion.

However, the Guinness Book of Records does not mention where the giant is located – it is believed that too much tourist traffic could disrupt the ecosystem in which the tree grows.

The second and third places in the ranking of the tallest trees also belong to sequoias.

What is remarkable is that Helios and Icarus (as the trees were named) grow in the same park as Hyperion.

The height of Helios was 114.7 meters, and Icarus – 113.1 meters (data from 2006).
