Ambati was a gifted student, finishing high school at the age of 11.

When the boy was 13 years old, he graduated from the New York University School of Medicine.

Ambati received his full higher medical education diploma in May 1995. At that time, the young man was 17 years old.

This achievement allowed the graduate of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine to receive the status of the youngest medical specialist. The corresponding mention is in the Guinness Book of Records.

Ambati also completed additional medical training (internship, clinical residency). Balamurali Ambati is an ophthalmologist.
