Most often, residents of the United States encounter such a phenomenon as tornadoes.

It is all the more surprising that the most deadly air vortex occurred not here, but on the other side of the planet.

The tragedy occurred on April 26, 1989, when a powerful tornado swept through the Manikganj area of Bangladesh.

Wind speeds reached 181-350 km/h.

The width of the destruction strip was 1.5 km, and its length was 80 km.

The tornado caused the most damage to the towns of Daulatpur and Saturia.

There is great uncertainty regarding the death toll, but it is believed to have killed around 1,300 people and injured 12,000.

All buildings in the tornado's path were destroyed, leaving 80,000 people homeless.
