Air travel is not a luxury, but a convenient means of transportation around the world. The number of passenger and cargo air transportation has reached such a scale that some airports on the planet are approaching the size of large cities.

These huge conglomerates have everything that a modern city could possibly have: parking, roads, public transport, buildings, structures and terminals.

Below is a list of the top five largest airports in the world. Each of them is a kind of work of art, combined with a flight of engineering thought and the scale of modern construction.

Any self-respecting traveler can and should visit at least one of these airports.

After all, visiting the greatest technical structures of the current technogenic civilization can be even more exciting than examining antiquities and natural beauty.

King Fahd Airport (Saudi Arabia)

The scale of this giant, located near the city of Dammam, can only be imagined by looking at it from a bird's eye view. The area of this airport is 2 times larger than the area of a city like Riga and is 780 sq. km.

Two two-kilometer runways, parking for 4,000 cars in total, multi-level terminals. Over the past 10 years, passenger traffic through the airport has increased more than 4 times.

Denver Airport (USA)

An airport of notorious fame. Its "fame" lies in its original constructions, interior solutions and overall mysterious architectural concept.

There is a famous giant statue of a horse here. Wits have nicknamed it "The Pale Horse of the Apocalypse." This nickname is due to the terrifying appearance of the sculpture and the red eyes of the statue due to the original lighting.

The airport's halls and terminals are filled with paintings by contemporary artists depicting provocative themes of violence, war and disaster.

What creative idea was embodied in the interiors of this airport, one can only guess. Many believe that the dominant idea here is a global conspiracy, the dominance of the powerful, genocide and war, which is somewhat symbolic for the United States.

Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in the USA

It is located in Atlanta and occupies a relatively small area of 2,000 hectares. Despite its small size, the airport handles up to 90 million passengers a year, surpassing such giants as London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Hartsfield-Jackson primarily serves domestic traffic within the United States and is therefore not widely known outside the country.

Beijing Capital International Airport (China)

It ranks first in Asia in terms of size. It has a capacity of up to 80 million passengers per year. It has undergone three significant reconstructions, during which it acquired its modern respectable appearance.

Dubai International Airport (UAE)

A huge airport to match its country – a symbol of comfort and luxury. The infrastructure of this aviation mega-complex includes 4 hotels, 30 restaurants, several swimming pools, and countless shops.

This airport grew from a modest terminal to such a size relatively quickly – in about 50 years.
