For lovers of scary urban legends, creepy places and unexplained phenomena, a top 5 list of the scariest places on the planet was compiled by thrill-seekers.

Air cemetery

Death is the end for all of us. No matter how terrible and sad it may sound. Those who are trying to simply enjoy life most often do not want to talk about this topic, but more down-to-earth people are calm about this fact and even prepare a will in advance or even think about how their bodies will be buried when they die.

Usually bodies are buried in coffins that are buried in the ground, but there have been cases where people have "experimented" with burial methods. Hanging cemeteries are an example of such an unoriginal approach.

Among the rocks of the Echo Valley, coffins hang very close to each other. There is a belief that it is better to place the body of the deceased as high as possible to the sky, so that he gets there faster.

It looks strange, one can understand. However, it is necessary to understand that such a funeral tradition has existed for more than two thousand years.

Also, the Filipinos who perform "air burials" do not want to share the secrets of how they secure the coffins to the steep cliffs.

Cemetery of human bones under the capital of France

Paris is known to most people for its love of fashion, romance and culture. But as usual, this beautiful place hides its dark secrets underground.

The Paris Catacombs were created as a result of the 18th century cemeteries constantly running out of space for the dead, which also accidentally led to an improper burial process.

And this led to widespread disease. After another epidemic, the city authorities decided to stop burying bodies in regular cemeteries. Instead, they began moving bodies to the catacombs beneath the city.

Despite the walls covered with the bones of millions of skeletons and the whole oppressive atmosphere (only the organ is missing), this place has beds for growing mushrooms, places for holding meetings of various communities and even "secret" places for swimming. In short, a favorite "scary place" for tourists.

Bazaar of witchcraft goods

In Africa, there is one of the most terrifying places associated with the witchcraft of local tribes - Akodessewa Market. Here you will find everything you need for black magic. Well, or for a photo shoot in the Gothic style. But for ordinary people, the stalls with a bunch of dog, snake and cow heads will not give the most pleasant impression.

Those who like to tickle their nerves can come there to look at ritual objects, and ordinary people look for an ingredient for a medicine prescribed by a witch doctor. But do not judge them too much, because this is their culture.

Even professional footballers try not to forget about consulting with voodoo magicians, and it is logical to assume that ordinary people in Africa will be mostly superstitious.

Mountain of Crosses

Now we can take a look at one of the religious landmarks of Lithuania, which has its own "eerie twist". On that mountain, in a relatively small area, there are more than two hundred thousand crucifixes. And they are still being installed.

Although this place, recognized as an archaeological cultural monument, looks like a cemetery, it is not one.

There are many legends about this place. People believe that whoever puts their cross there will receive lifelong luck.

Island of the Dolls

On the small island of La Isla de la Muneca, there once lived a strange hermit named Julian Santana Barrera. This man was, to put it mildly, eccentric. He hung old dolls everywhere, which he found or bought. But in his spare time, he grew vegetables and caught fish.

Barrera used dolls to protect himself from the ghost of a drowned girl. An important point for the story: he was practicing his "hobby" even before he finally moved to the island.

Julian Santana Barrera died in 2001 of a heart attack. His body was found by his nephew Anastasio Santana, who was delivering food and clothing to him on the island. Barrera drowned in the same lake where the girl he blamed himself for had drowned. Anastasio said that before his death he often told him that voices from the water were calling him to them.

This island is the perfect place to test your endurance and get your adrenaline pumping.
