Despite the fact that the history of theatrical art goes back several thousand years, this type of culture is still relevant.

Not everyone knows that in some places on the planet they have managed to preserve very ancient theater buildings that are still functioning today.

Which theatres are the most ancient?

Espanyol, Spain

The oldest theatre currently in operation was built in Madrid back in 1583. It is noteworthy that the building has been rebuilt several times over its long history.

Another interesting fact is that the theatre changed its name several times.

Olimpico, Italy

This theater is only two years "younger" than the record holder. The building was constructed in the city of Vicenza. It took five years to build the theater.

Since the theatre was preserved in almost perfect condition, it was included in the UNESCO heritage list.

Due to the fact that the building itself is very old, the theatre does not have air conditioning or a heating system.
