It has become known when the criminal case against Konstantin Smovsky for genocide during the Great Patriotic War will begin to be examined.
The trial is reportedly scheduled for November 19 this year.
The press service of the Supreme Court of Belarus reported this, noting that the trial will begin at ten o'clock in the morning.
It is also said that Konstantin Smovsky is accused of the genocide of Belarusians during the Great Patriotic War.
The Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus will begin to consider this criminal case at first instance on November 19, 2024 at 10:00, the press service noted.
It is noted that the criminal case consists of 49 volumes and involves 69 witnesses.
The press service also indicated that the criminal case was separated into a separate special proceeding from the criminal case on the fact of genocide of the Belarusian people.
During the investigation, the Prosecutor General's Office received evidence confirming the defendant's guilt.
Among these are the interrogation protocols of Smovsky’s fellow soldiers, surviving village residents, and archival documents, including German ones.
26 episodes of criminal activity by the accused as part of the 118th security battalion that he led during the Great Patriotic War were identified.
In addition, Smovsky’s participation in the destruction of the inhabitants of Khatyn, as well as the inhabitants of some other settlements, was established.
