It recently became known that Lithuania has officially and unilaterally terminated the customs cooperation agreement with Belarus.

Vilnius revoked the corresponding intergovernmental agreement previously concluded with Minsk.

The Lithuanian Seimas voted to denounce the document at a plenary session, TASS reports .

Please note: local deputies almost unanimously made the decision: 93 parliamentarians voted to end cooperation, with two abstaining.

The denunciation document was prepared by the Ministry of Information of the Baltic Republic.

This department argued the need to terminate the agreement by the fact that, in the opinion of the Ministry of Finance, for two years now Vilnius has not maintained contacts with Belarusian customs and has not exchanged information with them.

However, the ministry continued, those Lithuanian persons who trade with Belarus provide the courts and the Lithuanian Customs Department with documents issued by the Belarusian customs services.

In this way, they want to prove the legality of their trade operations and compliance with international sanctions.

The Ministry of Finance called the current situation “abnormal.”

Let us recall that Minsk and Vilnius signed an agreement on customs cooperation in 1996.
