Adviser to US presidential election winner Donald Trump, lawyer Boris Epstein, a native of Russia, may become a prominent figure in the new government.
As The New York Times reports, citing informed sources, this gentleman allegedly proposed his candidacy for the post of Washington's special envoy on the Ukrainian conflict.
According to the newspaper, the initiative was announced when Trump, after winning the election, was flying to the country's capital to meet with Biden.
Then “his high-ranking aide proposed a striking idea of mediating in establishing peace between Russia and Ukraine,” the MIA “Russia Today” cites the publication.
The American publication claims that this information was received from four sources.
One of them said that as soon as members of Trump's team on the plane heard this, they were immediately taken aback.
What most perplexed them was the fact that Epstein had no experience in international relations.
In addition, it is stated that the lawyer is currently under investigation in the state of Arizona.
The reason for this is that he groundlessly accused the local election commission of falsifying the 2020 elections.
The newspaper writes that no one on the plane disputed the fact that was obvious to them all: the person least shocked by the lawyer's idea was the only one "whose opinion ultimately mattered."
Mr. Trump listened with obvious interest and did not reject the offer, although he did not commit to it, the article says.
And it goes on to say that even Elon Musk, who is close to the president-elect, is “surprised” by the amount of authority Trump has given to a lawyer within his team.
Epstein had previously allegedly told friends that he did not intend to hold any official positions but would instead serve as an informal adviser to the Republican.
On this point, The New York Times notes that “in Trump’s world, the lack of an official title means little in terms of measuring influence.”
What is known about Epstein himself is that he was born in Moscow in 1982 into a Jewish family.
In 1993, he moved to the United States with his relatives, “escaping persecution,” as the lawyer stated on his social networks.
In the USA, he graduated from the prestigious Georgetown University with degrees in law and international relations.
Worked on the campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin.
According to the press, he came to Trump's attention thanks to his friendship with his son Eric, with whom he studied at the same university.
In 2016, he began working as a senior adviser to the Trump campaign.
After the latter took office as president, he worked in the White House for a little over a month.
It is not known for certain why he left. The media wrote that there were allegedly problems with the security service regarding the lawyer's "explosive nature".
They recall 2014, when Epstein had a confrontation in a bar, but was not charged because he agreed to take an anger management course.
In 2021, in Arizona, according to media reports, he was arrested for harassing women in a bar.
But the lawyer pleaded guilty only to the public order charge. The harassment charges were eventually dropped.
This year, an Arizona grand jury indicted Epstein and several other Trump associates on charges of interfering in the 2020 election.
