Alexander Lukashenko met with representatives of the working group for the analysis of the activities of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
During the event, the President pointed out the government’s colossal shortcomings in terms of supporting domestic science.
Specific shortcomings in the activities of the National Academy of Sciences were named, but, as the head of state noted, the problems concern not only it.
There are also claims against the State Committee for Science and Technology (SCST) and industry ministries.
Where is the coordinating and managing role of the State Committee on Science and Technology? But this is the main function for which it was created, the Belarusian leader was quoted as saying by his press service .
According to the President, an analysis of scientific programs showed that ministries practically do not participate in them – they are almost never seen among the customers.
And this is a colossal failure of the government. Is it really true that industries do not have a demand for scientific developments? - Lukashenko asked.
He drew the Prime Minister’s attention to the fact that the government “works like temporary workers: from day to evening – and that’s fine.”
What's next, what are the prospects? Without science, it's impossible, the head of state emphasized.
He asked: how could it be allowed that such in-demand and most state-funded areas as UAVs, space, digital and biotechnology were “given over to the mercy of the Academy of Sciences itself?”
She is her own customer, executor and controller. How can we do without practical specialists in these areas who understand what the economy needs? – the President asked.
And he added: since there is no result, no one to blame, then there is no one to hold accountable.
In his opinion, conducting research just for the sake of research itself, which does not meet the country’s development goals, means engaging in Sisyphean labor.
