Over 700,000 signatures have already been collected for the candidate for President of Belarus in the 2025 elections, the current head of state Alexander Lukashenko.
The Belarusian leader named this figure during a speech at the Traktor stadium in Minsk.
I was informed yesterday that more than 700,000 signatures have been collected to date. Something like that, the President's press service quotes him as saying.
He added that he had not yet had time to closely follow the election campaign due to his many affairs and numerous trips around the country and abroad.
In addition, Lukashenko noted, it was necessary to monitor the completion of the harvesting campaign in the country.
People need to be fed. Today we have everything and even more than we expected, he said.
As for the elections, according to the head of state, he has already initiated the end of the collection of signatures in support of his candidacy.
But the head of the Presidential Administration, Dmitry Krutoy, spoke out against it: he said that people should be given the opportunity to support their leader.
Lukashenko informed that he plans to talk with the leadership of the initiative group and thank them “at the first stage.”
He also wants to discuss further actions with them, but noted that alternative candidates also need to collect their signatures.
But, as I am told, people are not very willing to sign for another candidate. This makes me happy and seriously worries me: for me the most terrible thing is people's trust, - the President said.
He noted that after 2020, Belarusians came to the conclusion that they could lose the country, so they decided to “appreciate what they have.”
And so, based on this, they go, but not very much, to sign for others, the head of state concluded.
