The Kremlin has commented on the statement by former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump about the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov reminded Trump that the gas pipeline had been completed.
The statement by the Kremlin representative is quoted by TASS .
Commenting in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson on accusations of working for Russia, Trump stated that it was he who destroyed Nord Stream 2 by imposing sanctions against it.
I destroyed Nord Stream 2, said the former American leader.
The Kremlin representative recalled that the gas pipeline would eventually be completed.
Moreover, the Nord Stream 2 pipeline has survived, and it is ready to be launched at any moment, as the president said, the press secretary of the head of the Russian state noted.
Construction of Nord Stream 2 began in 2018. In 2019, the Trump administration imposed sanctions on construction participants, and the work had to be completed with the help of Russian courts.
Gas supply never began due to a delay in certification on the German side. After Russia recognized the sovereignty of the DPR and LPR in February 2022, German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz announced the suspension of certification.
