Belarusian diplomats return from Syria to Minsk

It recently became known that Belarusian diplomats who worked in Syria have returned to their homeland.

They were withdrawn to Minsk in connection with the situation that had developed in the Arab Republic.

The corresponding statement was published on the official account of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry on the social network VKontakte.

It was also reported that the Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Syria, Yuri Sluka, “will be in the capital for some time for consultations.”

Based on the results of these events, it is expected that an “in-depth assessment of the situation” will be carried out.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to the Russian side for ensuring the safe arrival of the republic’s diplomats to their homeland.

It is noted that in order to continue consular activities and provide possible assistance to citizens of Belarus in Syria, a temporary consular post of the Belarusian embassy in Syria has been organized in Beirut.

Earlier, the Department of the Situation and Crisis Center of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that on December 15, a special flight of the Russian Aerospace Forces arrived at Moscow's Chkalovsky Airport.

The plane delivered part of the personnel of the Russian foreign missions in Damascus to the Russian capital from the Khmeimim airbase.

Employees of diplomatic missions of Belarus, Abkhazia and North Korea were also evacuated.

The work of the Russian Embassy in Damascus continues, the statement said.
