Documents have been submitted to the Central Election Commission of Belarus to register an initiative group to collect signatures in support of the nomination of the leader of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice, Alexander Khizhnyak, as a presidential candidate.

This was reported on the Central Election Commission's Telegram channel.

Khizhnyak is the director of the UP "Belniipgradostroitelstva" and a deputy of the Minsk City Council. He submitted documents to the CEC in person.

Earlier today, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus, Oleg Gaidukevich, submitted documents to the Central Election Commission.

How is the election campaign going in Belarus?

The Central Election Commission will accept documents for registration of initiative groups until November 1 inclusive.

Yesterday, a group of the current President Alexander Lukashenko was registered.

The collection of signatures will start on November 7 and will last until December 6. From December 7 to 21, the Central Election Commission will accept documents for registration of candidates.

Candidate registration will take place from December 22 to 31. Election campaigning is planned from January 1 to 25.

Early voting will begin on January 21. The main day is January 26.
