Documents have been submitted to the Central Electoral Commission of Belarus to register a citizens' initiative group to collect signatures from voters in support of nominating the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus (LDPB) Oleg Gaidukevich as a presidential candidate.
The Central Election Commission press service reported this on Telegram.
According to BELTA , the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus submitted documents to the Central Election Commission in person.
In a conversation with journalists, Gaidukevich noted that he is running in the elections to strengthen the country.
After the elections we must become stronger, the politician said.
Yesterday, the Central Election Commission registered the initiative group of the current head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, and refused to register the groups of Yuri Gubarevich and Alexander Drozdov.
As explained by the Central Election Commission, Drozdov did not provide a list of the group members, and Gubarevich sent documents by email, which is not provided for by electoral legislation.
According to the calendar plan of organizational events for the preparation and holding of elections, documents for registration of initiative groups are accepted until November 1 inclusive.
Signature collection will be conducted from November 7 to December 6, documents for candidate registration will be accepted from December 7 to 21, candidate registration will be from December 22 to 31, and pre-election campaigning will be from January 1 to 25.
Early voting will begin on January 21, with the main voting day on January 26.
The election results will be determined no later than February 5. The second round of elections, if necessary, will take place no later than February 9.
