Russia supports the candidacy of the current President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in the upcoming elections.
This was announced on October 25 by the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov.
The statement by the Kremlin representative is quoted by TASS .
A Kremlin spokesman said that Russia will be closely monitoring the presidential elections in Belarus.
I am confident that everyone in Russia will support the candidacy of Alexander Grigorievich, said the press secretary of the head of state.
Peskov noted that elections are an internal matter for Belarus.
He also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin and many in Russia in general highly value Lukashenko’s role in the development of Belarus as a sovereign state, a member of the Union State and Russia’s closest ally.
Everyone is well aware of the special friendly, trusting relationship between the leaders of our two countries, ” the Kremlin representative added.
On October 23, the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus scheduled the presidential elections for January 26, 2025. On the same day, Lukashenko announced in an interview with Russian journalist Olga Skabeeva that he would run.
