On October 24, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan.
According to the press service of the President of Belarus, at the meeting Lukashenko supported the position of the UN Secretary General on the Middle East.
We are for peace, for peace negotiations, for the peaceful resolution of any conflicts, the president said.
The head of state presented Guterres with a gift – a sculpture of storks.
This is a symbol of peace. Our storks. We, Antonio, really need peace, Lukashenko noted.
Guterres, in turn, said that yesterday he experienced the most difficult hours of his life as UN Secretary General.
According to him, yesterday a drone hit a UN mission vehicle, killing the driver, and at the organization's office in Lebanon a drone hit the building so close that it smashed the windows.
In Northern Gaza, Guterres continued, the situation is so dire that the UN has been forced to suspend its vaccination programme.
Our people are going through very difficult times. However, they will continue their work, - the head of the organization said.
